Dr. Johanna Schmidt
Medical Director, Senior Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, PhD

MD, Senior Consultant in Gynaecology and subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine.

PhD on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS); continues to conduct research in this field and in Reproductive Medicine.

Previously worked for many years at Sahlgrenska University Hospital (Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Reproductive Medicine) and later at Livio Göteborg at Carlanderska Hospital.

Within Reproductive Medicine, Johanna’s focus areas include IVF, donation and male infertility. She is the former chair of Sweden’s IVF physicians’ association.

Completed specialist training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the Women’s Clinic, Skaraborg Hospital Skövde, where she worked for many years.

Early in her career Erica focused on fertility/infertility and previously served as the medically responsible lead for the Infertility Clinic in Skövde.

Emelie Carlzon Diaz

Emelie has worked for many years as a midwife in labour and postnatal care at Mölndal Hospital and Östra Hospital, where she was one of the midwives organising and leading daily operations.

She has a long-standing interest in fertility and uses her broad expertise to provide the best possible care to our patients.

At Göteborgs IVF Klinik she manages patient contact, blood sampling, treatment and injection instructions, provides pain relief and assists at oocyte retrieval.

Christine has worked for many years both as a registered nurse and as a midwife, including in labour and postnatal care at Östra Hospital.

In previous roles she helped organise and lead daily operations. With a strong interest in fertility, she brings broad expertise to deliver excellent patient care.

At Göteborgs IVF Klinik she manages patient contact, blood sampling, treatment and injection information, provides pain relief and assists at oocyte retrieval.

Specialist nurse in perioperative care with extensive experience from the operating theatre.

At Göteborgs IVF Klinik Annica works in the team during oocyte retrieval and other procedures: planning and preparation, sterility/asepsis, patient monitoring and postoperative care.

She is also responsible for medication handling, pain management and practical information before and after treatment.

Embryologist with a master’s degree in molecular biology with a focus on genetics. Has worked in IVF as an embryologist since 2013 and became ESHRE-certified in 2018.

At Göteborgs IVF Klinik, Gunilla works as an embryologist with responsibility for all laboratory procedures.

She is also an internal auditor and quality manager.

Embryologist with master’s degrees in both biology and molecular biology. Previous experience in microbiology at Sahlgrenska and as an embryologist in IVF at Livio in Falun and at Reproductive Medicine, Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Assistant nurse with experience from the Neonatal Unit at Östra Hospital and the Internal Medicine Ward 5 at Alingsås Hospital, specialising in general internal medicine and cardiology.

At the clinic you will meet her in various settings, including reception, at blood sampling and assisting at examinations.

Before that she worked in forensic psychiatric care, as a controller with Securitas and as a restaurant manager at Scandic Hotels.

Klas Abrahamsson

Klas has many years’ experience working with the psychological aspects of Reproductive Medicine. His expertise includes the stress and crisis reactions many people facing involuntary childlessness experience, both individuals and couples. Support around difficult news or major decisions is also common. Other areas include relationship and sexual issues, and LGBTQ-related aspects tied to fertility and parenthood.

Those needing treatment with donated gametes are welcome to contact Klas for the mandatory psychosocial assessment required by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare.

Klas has previously worked with these matters at the Reproductive Medicine Centre (RMC) in Malmö.
